Former Liverpool FC winger and Chilean international Mark González was a special guest at the 7 Elite International Tournament 2025, bringing not just his experience from the highest levels of football but also a vision for helping young players take the next step in their careers.
González played at the highest level across Chile, Russia, Spain, Brazil, and England. A fast and explosive left-winger, he was known for his speed and technical ability, making him a dangerous attacking threat.
During his time in England, he played for Liverpool FC, where he shared the pitch with Stephen Warnock, now a 7 Elite Global Ambassador. González also had spells at clubs like Real Sociedad and CSKA Moscow, competing in top leagues around the world.
On the international stage, he made his Chile debut in 2003 and went on to represent his country in three Copa América tournaments and the 2010 FIFA World Cup. One of his career highlights was winning the Copa América Centenario, cementing his place in Chilean football history.
Having played at some of the biggest clubs in Europe, González recognizes the immense potential of young players in the United States. “In Europe, you have very big academies like Liverpool and others. And here in the US, you still have very, very good kids. They’re disciplined, they want to learn, and they want to go higher in the sport,” he shared during his time at the tournament.
González’s presence at the tournament wasn’t just about watching games—it was about scouting talent and creating opportunities. His current mission is to help young players gain exposure, particularly in Europe, where he is organizing an elite team to travel and compete against top clubs and national teams.
“This April, we’re taking a team to Europe for ten days to play eight games, including against Dinamo Zagreb and the Croatian national team. The idea is to build a top team that will compete and, more importantly, have the opportunity to be scouted,” González explained.
Beyond international scouting, González emphasized the importance of education and scholarships, ensuring that talented young players have multiple pathways to success—whether through collegiate soccer, professional academies, or showcase events.
“What they already have here is fantastic, but now we’re looking to add even more opportunities. We’re talking about scholarships, different showcases—not just here in St. George, Utah, but also in Miami and across the US. Wherever we can provide these opportunities, we want to do it,” he said.
